Sarah Palin is taking some serious heat over what she wears. No, not for the excess of pantsuits or those crazy glasses people just can’t get enough of – but for the cost of them. Politico.com recently discovered that the Republican National Committee has shelled out more than $150,000 on Palin’s wardrobe. At first McCain’s office wouldn’t answer any questions about the matter, but eventually gave in with some line about how it was all going to be donated to charity anyway.

The Republican National Committee has spent more than $150,000 to clothe and accessorize vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and her family since her surprise pick by John McCain in late August. According to financial disclosure records, the accessorizing began in early September and included bills from Saks Fifth Avenue in St. Louis and New York for a combined $49,425.74. The records also document a couple of big-time shopping trips to Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis, including one $75,062.63 spree in early September. The RNC also spent $4,716.49 on hair and makeup through September after reporting no such costs in August.

The cash expenditures immediately raised questions among campaign finance experts about their legality under the Federal Election Commission’s long-standing advisory opinions on using campaign cash to purchase items for personal use.

Politico asked the McCain campaign for comment, explicitly noting the $150,000 in expenses for department store shopping and makeup consultation that were incurred immediately after Palin’s announcement. Pre-September reports do not include similar costs. Spokeswoman Maria Comella declined to answer specific questions about the expenditures, including whether it was necessary to spend that much and whether it amounted to one early investment in Palin or if shopping for the vice presidential nominee was ongoing.

After a few hours Spokeswoman Maria Comella changed her tune, using the classic, “there are so many more important things to talk about” line before talking about what she didn’t want to talk about. It was a half-assed attempt to try to make everyone else look shallow and petty for wanting to know how campaign dollars are spent instead so she wouldn’t look evasive.

“With all of the important issues facing the country right now, it’s remarkable that we’re spending time talking about pantsuits and blouses,” said spokeswoman Tracey Schmitt. “It was always the intent that the clothing go to a charitable purpose after the campaign.”

Thanks, that was really useful. Politico goes over several other candidates that have been given a hard time for spending campaign money on clothing and haircuts in the past. The only prominent politician that isn’t on that list is Barack Obama – he hasn’t billed any clothing or similar items to his campaign. Sarah Palin, on the other hand, billed some things from fancy baby store Pacifier, as well as $295 at Steiniauf & Stroller Inc. I’m sure the baby’s hair had to look good on T.V.

Boy Madonna’s “let’s slam the crap out of Guy Ritchie” PR machine is really working overtime. Apparently they couldn’t handle Madge getting anything less than goddess-level worshipping in the press, so they’ve started a full-fledged campaign to smear Guy as badly as possible. The problem is that though Ritchie has certainly said a few negative things about Madonna, they were utterly believable. Like the comment about how being with Madge was like “cuddling up with a piece of gristle.” That’s the most hysterically accurate thing I’ve ever heard said about Madonna.

But her camp is saying that Ritchie has said truly horrible things to her and her children, and was using her the whole time.

madonna and Guy Ritchie’s marriage was plagued by physical and emotional abuse in recent years, friends of the couple reveal in the latest issue of Us Weekly, on newsstands now.

“She would taunt Guy, saying, ‘I should have married someone like me: strong, hot-blooded, intelligent, ambitious, spiritual,’” reveals a Ritchie source. “Their fights would often get heated. A few times Madonna slapped him or poked him.”

His reaction? “Guy called her old, fat, ugly and wrinkled and said that she was stupid and couldn’t sing,” another Madonna pal tells Us.

Meanwhile, a source tells Us Ritchie has already entered a relationship with British actress Kelly Reilly, who is starring in his upcoming drama Sherlock Holmes.

On Oct. 18 - three days after he announced he and Madonna were divorcing - he sent his driver back to his $12 million home in London’s Marylebone district “very last-minute” to pack an overnight bag for a stay at a nearby Chatham hotel — where Reilly is residing.

Obviously no one’s going to get out of this divorce with their dignity intact. Heaven forbid anyone consider the feelings of the three children involved in all this, and that it might not make them feel great to read such things about their parents.

People say a lot of things they don’t mean when they fight – and even worse is when they say things they do mean. Regardless of the intent, it’s plain these two should have split up a long time ago. They haven’t don’t their family any favors by exposing them to this kind of despicable behavior.

Egotastic has some of the scans from angelina jolie’s spread in W Magazine, photographed by her husband partner brad pitt. The magazine with its large and much-anticipated photo spread of Angelina and her children came out on the stands yesterday, with the full article published on their website last week. Many of the photos are black and white and appear slightly grainy. There are photos of the side of Angelina’s breast photographed through a thin v-neck t-shirt, her nipple visible, and her butt is shown in a see-through nightgown. (Maybe that negligee was what she meant when she said she packs light but includes “private girl things.”)

Some people thought the tasteful photo of Angelina on the cover breastfeeding one of the twins, which only showed the side of her breast and a little hand poking out, was too provocative. I wonder what they’re going to say about these latest photos.

Angelina has said that she doesn’t walk around the house naked because she has young boys. I also thought she vowed never to get naked on film again, but that was Brad, not her. According to Mr. Skin, she’s been partially naked in 13 films, including Gia, Original Sin and Taking Lives.

She looks great and I don’t see a problem with these shots if everyone is comfortable with them. They’re just a little nudity and it’s not full frontal or anything. Maybe I’ve been living in Europe too long, but I don’t find them shocking or anything. I think I’m more surprised that Angelina and Brad made the decision to include them, knowing the controversy they might cause.

Angelina’s film Changeling is out in the US on October 31. She doesn’t get naked in it, and is generally distraught as a mother whose son goes missing. It’s not likely that even a full nude spread would help increase ticket sales for the film given the subject matter. The theater-going public has generally favored comedies and light escapist films over the past few weeks.

Don Cheadle will replace Terrence Howard as Robert Downey Jr’s best friend in Iron Man 2. Last week, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Cheadle would step into the role of Jim Rhodes in the sequel.
 

The news came as a complete surprise to fans and apparently, for Howard himself. In a new interview with National Public Radio, Howard admitted he was shocked when he heard the studio had replaced him with Don Cheadle.
 

“It was the surprise of a lifetime,” Howard told NPR.

Cheadle is best known for his role of Rwandan hotel manager Paul Rusesabagina in the film Hotel Rwanda, which gained him a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Actor in a leading role.

Eric Close is one of those actors who is talented, good-looking and works steadily, but flies way under the radar.

I’ve been a fan of his since the underrated Dark Skies and became a big fan when he played a long-haired, soft-spoken sharpshooter on the short-lived TV series based on The Magnificent 7.

He hasn’t had much to do onscreen lately on the CBS hit Without a Trace, although he has started directing, so I was pleasantly surprised to see an article on his recent trip to Africa in OK!

Eric and his wife Keri spent a week at CC Africa’s Ngala Private Game Reserve in South Africa.

“It was the greatest trip I’ve ever been on,” the Without a Trace actor tells OK! “And I’ve been to a lot of places. We were witnessing nature, watching the animals interact and observing their behavior. When you go to a zoo, you don’t see that.”

The two weren’t exactly roughing it. They stayed at the luxurious Ngala Lodge, but did track white rhino for hours on a walking safari.

Eric says the highlight was watching a mother leopard playing with her cub.

The trip wasn’t all vacation. Eric and Keri visited a local school near Ngala to help raise awareness about HIV/AIDS. Eric has taped several PSAs for CBS Cares about the issue. More than 12 million African children have been left parentless due to HIV/AIDS.

“A lot of these kids have HIV, or they’ve lost their parents to HIV,” he explains. “So there was sadness. Where I really saw it was with the preschoolers. The majority of them were either really sad or a little subdued, and it was moving.”

CC Africa has founded a nonprofit organization called the Africa Foundation, dedicated to the empowerment of local communities. CC Africa generates money from tourist safaris and puts the money back into the care of the land, the animals and the people.

Eric and Keri have two daughters and are active in the Brentwood Presbyterian church, where Eric is reportedly a deacon.

Without a Trace airs Tuesdays nights at 10 p.m. on CBS.

When you’re pregnant, it seems like everyone wants to share their labor and delivery horror stories with you. This happens to me every week at my pregnancy yoga class. But I don’t think any of the stories I’ve heard so far compare to actress/model Milla Jovovich’s 72-hour labor to deliver her last child, daughter Ever, who just turned one. If you recall, Milla spent most of last year losing the baby weight she gained while pregnant with Ever - about 70 pounds total. But that was child’s play compared to the marathon labor session she endured.

As her daughter Ever turns 1, Milla Jovovich reveals that her child birth over Halloween was exceptionally difficult.

“I was in labor for 72 hours,” Jovovich tells PEOPLE at the Spike TV’s Scream 2008, in Hollywood over the weekend. “I was up for 48 hours, for two nights. I started Halloween night. By the time I went into the hospital, it was the night of November 2. I finally went into the hospital and had the epidural.”

Despite the ghoulish lack of rest, Jovovich, 32, says when Ever Gabo Anderson arrived, “all I wanted to do was just show her who her mom is, and talk to her.”

And now, comes the fun of planning baby’s first birthday!

“I’m the worst at planning stuff like that,” Jovovich, who is married to director Paul Anderson, says. “But for her party, I have to plan something. It will be pretty relaxed.”

Relaxed for mom, that is, as the Resident Evil actress attests, “too many people in the house [can be] too much” for Ever. “The fact is, I just have to bring her down after her nap and take some shots with the other kids, and send her away. She’ll just freak out.”

Jovovich jokes, “It’s really for me. It’s not for her. It’s for her memories so she doesn’t come back to me at 25 and like, ‘You didn’t celebrate my first birthday, and that’s why I hate you, mom! My life is totally screwed up because of it.’ ”

I think it was Jerry Seinfeld who said that your first birthday is a lot like your 90th birthday: you’re disoriented, don’t know anyone, and the party is over when guest of honor needs a nap. At any rate, Milla looks great and seems no worse for wear after her pregnancy and labor nightmare. And her little girl is adorable. So those 72 hours of pain were worth it.

Josh Holly, the 19-year-old cyber hacker who stole personal, racy photos of then-15-year-old Miley Cyrus from her Gmail account, may be facing criminal charges. The hacker boasted about how easy it was for him to pose as a MySpace administrator, steal Cyrus’ G-mail password and gain unauthorized access to the young star’s photos stored online. These photos included the teen in a bikini, as well as in a wet T-shirt in the shower.

You don’t mess with Miley Cyrus and expect no one to notice.

The Tennessee apartment of Josh Holly, the admitted hacker who bragged about breaking into Cyrus’ old email account and posting racy pictures of the teen star online, was raided Monday morning in connection with his alleged dirty deeds, reports Wired.com’s Threat Level blog.

The FBI did not immediately return calls for comment, but Cyrus’ attorney, William Sobel, tells E! News, “This is an ongoing investigation and we appreciate the efforts of the FBI.”

Here’s a little nugget of wisdom for Miley: if you don’t take the photos to begin with, they won’t be available to be stolen. In this day and age, anyone, famous or not, needs to realize that nothing is “private” anymore- especially anything stored on a computer. Don’t get me wrong: this hacker kid is a moron - and a criminal. As much as I dislike Miley Cyrus - I think her wholesome image is phoney baloney - Josh Holly should be brought up on charges. He invaded her privacy illegally and on top of that, Cyrus is a minor. Let’s see how much this cyber nerd enjoys being on house arrest with no access to the Internet.

A SLEW of young celebs enjoyed the pool at Hollywood’s Roosevelt Hotel over the weekend - oblivious to the fact that the hotel staff never drained the water after a dead body was found in the pool a week earlier, sources said.

At 4:30 a.m. Monday Oct. 13, Jordan Nagler, 30, a Rockville Centre, LI, native who was the executive director of International Student Exchange in Babylon, was found dead in the hotel’s Tropicana Bar pool.

Ed Winter, assistant chief of investigations for the Los Angeles County coroner’s office, told The Post’s David Finnigan: “He was found at the bottom of the pool wearing swimming trunks. The staff at the hotel found him, but we don’t know who actually removed him from the pool.”

A Page Six source told us that days after Nagler’s body was found, “The hotel management had a meeting, where they told staffers the pool didn’t need to be drained” because “there was enough chlorine in it to kill the bacteria.”

The tipster added, “Following the tragedy, the hotel held a meeting with employees of the Roosevelt, Teddy’s [the club inside the hotel] and Tropicana Bar.” Staffers were instructed not to “say anything to anyone” because, “We don’t want this to get out.”

One week later, the likes of lindsay lohan, Samantha Ronson, Eve, Kevin Connolly and Stacy Keibler “were swimming in the unchanged water,” our source added. On Monday, Justin Long, Sarah Chalke, Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks were there for an Effen Vodka-hosted party.

Stephen Brandman, chief operating officer of Thompson Hotels, which owns the Roosevelt, called reports about not draining the pool and shushing the staff “urban legend.” He told us, “Somebody did die, but we don’t think anything awkward or bizarre occurred. He had a heart attack.”

Winter said the cause of death was undetermined. An LA cop told Finnigan there’s no homicide investigation and the death “could be a result of alcohol consumption.”
